My love affair with ballgowns began after my mother took me to see the Original Version of Disney’s Cinderella at a theatre. The scene where the mice and birds work secretly on a ballgown for Cinderella to wear to the ball had me dreaming of making my own gown just like it. My grandmother was a professional seamstress and it was she who taught and gave me the love of sewing by hand and later by machine Ever since then I have been passionate about creating and collecting beautiful things. I have made and collected clothing, purses, dolls and jewelry most of my life. Much of the vintage Christening Gowns, First Communion Dress, Wedding Gowns, Ball Gowns, Purses, Lingerie and dolls that I collect are in very good condition for their age, however it’s those that need a little loving attention that I love finding most. I have a passion for bringing them back to wearable condition so that one day they can be cherished by another.
Having a love for all things romantic, you can imagine my excitement when I discovered a beautiful monthly publication called “Victoria”! Over the years I have collected almost every issue ever published and started searching Estate Sales and Auction Houses for vintage items so beautifully displayed and photographed on the pages …. I would say that was when I decided I must one day have a shop where I could create a beautiful, romantic Victoria-inspired dressing room to share with like minded women.
When little girls, mom’s, grandma’s and great grandma’s walk through the door of the shop the first thing most of them utter is “ooooh!” That is when I smile and think, “yes, this is why I do this!”
